The Certified Medical Technician (CMT) under the supervision of the department leader provides assistance to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the delivery of patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Assist RN/LPN with non-nursing tasks such as crash cart checks, quality control checks, retrieving equipment/supplies, and maintaining a clean and stocked department.
- Assist RN/LPN with routine patient care and treatment, including vital signs, intake/output, pain level assessment, administering enemas, and transporting patients.
- Recognize and practice within scope of certification and competency levels, and relay any questions or concerns to the supervising RN/LPN.
- Effectively communicate pertinent information in shift-to-shift and transfer reports, and document items in EPIC as indicated.
- Respond and assist in emergency/urgent situations, such as ERT calls.
- High School diploma or GED and completion of an approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program.
- Achieves and maintains active State of Kentucky or National Registry EMT certification.
- Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) required or achieved within 90 days of start date and maintained annually.
Constantly works near moving mechanical parts, exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection, and occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of radiation.
Physical Demands- Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting).
- Frequently required to walk and move about, operate a computer and other equipment, and use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
- Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds, frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds, and occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
- Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
