Certified Nursing Assistant Job Description

The Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A) plays a vital role in the implementation of the total resident/patient plan of care, focusing on activities of daily living, education, recreation, and transportation. This position is responsible for assisting staff members and contributing to the overall care of residents/patients in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of the nursing department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with daily living activities, including feeding, bathing, ambulating, and skin care.
  • Take initial vital signs and provide weights to nursing staff in a timely manner.
  • Report changes in vital signs or measurements promptly to the Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
  • Follow procedures for Universal Precautions.
  • Monitor and record resident/patient intake and output in accordance with unit standards or physician orders.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident/patient-related issues and support resident/patient rights.
  • Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to provide excellent care.
  • Deliver patient/resident care promptly and accurately as directed by the RN/LPN and in accordance with the plan of care.
Requirements:
  • Active Maine C.N.A License.
  • Effective listening skills to provide support for resident/patient needs.
  • Ability to empathize with residents, patients, and families.
  • Flexibility and ability to remain objective in difficult circumstances.
