Job Title: Patient Access Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Specialist to join our team at Ensemble Health Partners. As a Patient Access Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of patients through our healthcare system.

Job Summary:

The Patient Access Specialist is responsible for performing admitting duties for all patients admitted for services at the hospital. This includes assigning accurate MRNs, completing medical necessity / compliance checks, providing proper patient instructions, collecting insurance information, receiving and processing physician orders, and utilizing a overlay tool while providing excellent customer service as measured by Press Ganey.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assign accurate MRNs and complete medical necessity / compliance checks
  • Provide proper patient instructions and collect insurance information
  • Receive and process physician orders and utilize a overlay tool
  • Operate the telephone switchboard to relay incoming, out-going and inter-office calls as applicable
  • Adhere to policies and provide excellent customer service in interactions with patients and staff
  • Conduct audits of accounts and assure that all forms are completed accurately and timely to meet audit standards
  • Provide statistical data to Patient Access leadership
  • Pre-register patient accounts prior to patient visits and collect point of service collections as well as past due balances
  • Explain general consent for treatment forms to patients and obtain necessary signatures and witnesses name
  • Explain and distribute patient education documents, such as Important Message from Medicare, Important Message from Tricare, Observation Forms, MOON form, Consent forms, and all forms implemented for future services
  • Review eligibility responses in insurance verification system and appropriately select the applicable insurance plan code
  • Enter benefit data into system to support POS (Point of Service Collections) and billing processes
  • Accurately screen medical necessity using the Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) software and distribute the ABN as appropriate
Requirements:
  • 1+ years of customer service experience
  • High School Diploma/GED Required
  • CRCR Required within 6 months of hire
