Position Overview

The field of Supportive Palliative Care is a collaborative medical specialty dedicated to enhancing comfort and care for patients confronting serious health challenges, along with their families. The team members in this specialty work together to establish a care strategy that aligns with the patient's preferences and requirements, which includes pain management, symptom relief, counseling, spiritual support, and additional therapeutic options. Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking to welcome a new Supportive Palliative Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to their Central Texas team. Candidates who are bilingual in Spanish and English are highly preferred.

Role Summary

The Supportive Palliative Care Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) is a licensed and certified healthcare professional who provides direct patient care, holds delegated prescriptive authority, and is credentialed and privileged to operate as an independent billing provider, recognized by Medicare and Medicaid within the healthcare system. This role involves conducting assessments, offering education on diseases and treatments, and managing symptoms to fulfill the needs of patients in palliative care and their families. The Nurse Practitioner plays a vital role in ensuring that patients and their families achieve the highest possible level of comfort and coping.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of two years of experience in direct palliative care as an APP and be bilingual in English and Spanish.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday during daytime hours
  • Manage symptoms effectively
  • Facilitate discussions regarding care goals with patients and their families
  • Engage in advance care planning
  • Provide pain management and relief
  • Conduct comprehensive or focused physical examinations and medical histories to assess patients' physical and mental conditions.
  • Prescribe and recommend medical therapies or other therapeutic interventions in accordance with established protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive, outcomes-based treatment plans in collaboration with physicians, based on patient assessments and evidence-based practices.
  • Educate patients and families on medical processes, health management, medication, nutrition, and wellness promotion.
  • Advise patients on medication regimens and potential side effects or interactions with other substances.
  • Maintain detailed records of patient treatment plans and outcomes.
  • May be required to perform additional patient care duties as needed.

  • Capability to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans
  • Ability to counsel patients on medical and psychological conditions, treatment strategies, and behavior modification
  • Skill in interpreting and evaluating laboratory and diagnostic tests

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited program
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of AGACNP experience preferred
  • RN experience: ICU experience preferred
  • Bilingual: English and Spanish preferred

Certification and Licensure

  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
