Job Summary
Columbus City School's English Language Learning (ELL) students and families require dedicated support to ensure their academic success. As a Bilingual Liaison, you will play a vital role in establishing an ELL family outreach, support, and education program. This position requires fluency in English and Haitian Creole, with a preference for Spanish and/or Portuguese as a second language.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and engage with students and families who have disengaged from participation in school, utilizing electronic communications, phone calls, and in-person visits.
- Support students and parents in accessing technology and technology-related resources, including district-issued devices and learning platforms.
- Provide training and education to families on school procedures, technology, and public health-related health and safety measures.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive parent information program, covering topics such as enrollment, school rules, parent rights, and responsibilities.
- Establish and maintain relationships with youth, parents, and staff to ensure student needs and progress are addressed.
- Offer interpreting services for parents and schools during informal meetings.
- Translate district and school documents to inform parents about important information, such as letters, bulletins, announcements, calendars, and community resources.
- Perform other duties as required by the Youth Program Manager.
Requirements
- College degree preferred; some college required, with a willingness to continue professional development.
- Fluency in English and the specified language, with strong speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during parent and community events.
- Experience with technology, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication and public speaking skills in English and the specified language.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to work positively with other parents and CCS staff.
- Initiative in coordinating and organizing activities and events.
- Accuracy in collecting, organizing, and maintaining data and information for reports.
- Previous experience working with families and diverse populations.
