Respite Care Specialist

Job Summary:
The Mental Health Association of SCK is seeking a qualified Respite Care Worker to provide one-on-one support to children with serious emotional, behavioral, or psychological disorders. As a Respite Care Worker, you will provide relief to families and caregivers by offering a safe and nurturing environment for the children. Your primary responsibility will be to provide respite services to children in their homes, communities, and schools, promoting their well-being and development.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide respite services to children in their homes, communities, and schools, following the plan of care.
• Develop and maintain rapport with children, families, and caregivers, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of service provision, including progress notes and billing information.
• Participate in training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting children with mental health needs.
• Provide support and mentoring to children, teaching them self-responsibility and goal achievement.
• Engage children in planned activities, such as community service, and participate in community activities when possible.
• Document and notify the program lead of emergency situations, concerns, or incidents.
Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; some post-high school education in a social service field or experience working with special populations preferred.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication skills, both verbally and written.
• Ability to develop and maintain rapport with children, families, and caregivers.
• Valid Kansas driver's license and access to a personal vehicle required.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and perform other physical demands of the job.
Working Conditions:
• This position requires driving for community mobility and extensive writing, note-taking, and data entry.
• The Respite Care Worker will work in various settings, including homes, communities, and schools, and may be required to bend, stoop, or climb stairs.
