Position Overview

As a vital member of UnityPoint Health, the Clinical Pharmacist plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care within the hospital setting. This full-time position operates during evening shifts from 2pm to 12:30am, following a 7 on / 7 off schedule with 10-hour shifts per pay period. Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for:
  • Evaluating medication orders to ensure effective and economical drug therapy.
  • Supervising the accurate dispensing of medications to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Overseeing technical staff to guarantee the safe and precise execution of Unit Dose and IV admixture services.
  • Maintaining medication storage areas to ensure drug safety and security.
  • Providing patient education regarding new medications and potential adverse reactions.
  • Assisting with medication reconciliation and documenting interventions appropriately.
  • Delivering specialized services such as renal dosing, kinetic and dosing services, and anticoagulation monitoring.

Patient Care and Clinical Duties

The role involves:
  • Verifying all medication orders generated during shifts and ensuring timely updates to workflow.
  • Documenting adverse drug reactions and medication errors as they occur.
  • Fielding drug information inquiries and utilizing resources effectively for accurate responses.
  • Ensuring high-quality standards in IV Room products and maintaining efficient delivery processes.
  • Participating in performance improvement projects and clinical initiatives.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Pharmacist.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare teams.
  • Critical thinking skills and a commitment to patient-centered care.
