Position Summary
Under supervision, the role involves admitting and registering patients, managing the financial aspects of their hospitalization, and performing cashiering duties along with other related responsibilities.
Role Characteristics
The incumbent operates with minimal supervision within established procedures and is expected to perform tasks with occasional guidance. Frequent interaction with various departments within the facility is required, necessitating a solid understanding of the policies governing the Admitting Unit.
Qualifications
A combination of education and experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge and skills is acceptable. A typical qualification path includes:
Experience:
Preferred six months to one year of clerical experience in a healthcare environment or a related medical field.
Education:
Completion of high school or an equivalent qualification.
Work Schedule:
This position requires availability to work on weekends and some holidays.
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of:
- Principles of computer control systems and contemporary office practices
- Basic concepts related to admitting, billing, and collection procedures
- Fundamentals of data entry systems
- Operation of AS 400 terminals.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to individuals and groups
- Build rapport and maintain productive working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the community
- Establish and maintain necessary records and controls, and prepare reports, charts, and correspondence
- Operate AS400 systems, CRT, PC, fax machines, photocopiers, and PBX systems
- Accurately obtain and record information.
