The University of Alabama Museums seeks a highly skilled Director/Curator to lead its NAGPRA Program. As a key member of the museum team, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) through consultations, repatriations, and other activities.
Key Responsibilities:- Direct the respectful care and curation of the NAGPRA collection, including all items and human remains subject to NAGPRA.
- Develop and implement strategies for NAGPRA compliance, consultation, and project management.
- Collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including descendant communities, university faculty, staff, students, legal counsel, and government staff.
- Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology, Museum Studies, Native American Studies, or related field, or Master's degree with two years of experience in NAGPRA collections and consultation.
- Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to pass a background investigation.
- Thorough knowledge of NAGPRA law and procedures.
- Experience working with diverse groups of stakeholders.
