About the Role:

The successful candidate will apply technical expertise and user interface/user experience skills to develop and support tools (e.g., web apps) and algorithms (e.g., large language models) that facilitate discovery and use of data for analysis, downscaling, and artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) methods.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a diverse and multidisciplinary team of software architects and engineers, computational scientists, and Earth system modelers to develop and deploy a deep stack of software to support the Earth System Grid Federation - US (ESGF2-US) Project.
  • Design, develop, and implement software for user interfaces for data discovery and access and data workflows assuring provenance and integrity.
  • Develop technical papers and documentation and support user needs with documentation, tutorials, and hackathons.
Requirements:
  • B.S. degree in data science, computer science, computational science, or related technical subjects or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ years of experience developing data management or analysis tools or user interface software.
  • Experience designing and developing web-based user interfaces with JavaScript, ReactJS, and related tools.
  • Experience with Python, R, and Jupyter/JupyterHub, PuTorch, and TensorFlow.
  • Familiarity with collaborative development methodologies and development automation tools, including Git/GitHub and Slack.
  • Knowledge of large scale scientific data management, discovery, distribution, and archiving, as well as FAIR data principles and the Open Science practices.
  • Knowledge of commonly used data file formats and conventions (e.g., netCDF, HDF, CF, CMIP Controlled Vocabularies), geographic information system formats, geospatial transformations, and OGC standards and resources.
