Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Supervisor, this position encompasses a variety of responsibilities within the Surgical Services Department. Key duties include receiving, decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, and sterilizing surgical instruments. Furthermore, the role involves delivering processed instruments to various hospital units and participating in rotational weekend duties as an SPD call technician.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a Sterile Processing Technician course is preferred
  • Certification is not required but must be achieved within one year of employment

Core Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage multiple tasks efficiently without sacrificing quality
  • Exhibit critical thinking skills in fast-paced situations requiring focus
  • Conduct routine tests on departmental equipment, including washers and sterilizers
  • Initiate Biomedical or Facilities work orders as needed
  • Maintain accurate records for sterilizer loads and equipment testing
  • Identify and report broken or malfunctioning instruments
  • Apply the FIFO principle for the proper storage of processed surgical instruments
  • Follow manufacturer guidelines for the operation of SPD equipment
  • Perform additional relevant duties as required
  • Restock decontamination protective supplies to established levels
  • Ensure adequate levels of decontamination cleaning solutions are maintained
  • Conduct checks and maintenance of sterilizers, washers, and ultrasonic cleaners
