Job Role Summary

The Data Governance Specialist will implement and maintain our data governance strategy. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data quality, compliance, and security while promoting a culture of data stewardship across the organization.

The Data Governance Specialist will be part of a team that champions data-driven decision-making by providing data visualizations and facilitating and developing key performance indicators, as well as operational metrics.

The Data Governance Specialist will report to the Data Governance Supervisor.

A successful Data Governance Specialist enjoys acting as a bridge between business and Information Technology (IT) so that business users can access and understand the correct data.

Essential Duties

Data Governance Strategy:

Execute the data governance strategy aligned with organizational objectives and industry best practices. Leverage information to guide informed decision-making, promote the organization's mission, stay current on industry trends and best practices in data governance, and proactively recommend improvements to the data governance program.

Data Quality Assurance:

Implement data quality standards, policies, and procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data assets to ensure that Data Quality is excellent throughout the lifecycle of the data

Data Compliance:

Ensure adherence to data privacy regulations, such as HIPAA or other relevant standards; define access policies, optimize data-related workflows, and establish data protection mechanisms.

Data Stewardship:

Identify data stewards for various data domains, collaborate with them on data quality issues, and assist in training data stewards to monitor data quality and compliance.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

Collaborate with business units, IT teams, and data owners to define data governance roles and responsibilities and foster a culture of data ownership.

Data Mentorship:

Meet with end users to discuss requests and provide guidance on measuring their key performance indicators.

Associated Job Duties

Follows documented change control procedures when implementing solutions.

Ensures compliance with established Health & Hospital Corporation (HHC) / Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) standards and policies.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, public health, environmental health or informatics and four or more years of demonstrated experience as a data analyst, preferably in one of these areas: environmental health, public health, or healthcare or any combination of education and experience that would provide an equivalent background.

Experience with SQL and/or Oracle, relational databases, and schemas. Experience with data governance and data stewardship projects is preferred. Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SAP Analytics Cloud, or other business intelligence tools is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications Required

Indiana Driver's License and vehicle for occasional offsite visits across Marion County

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Deep understanding of Health & Hospital Corporation (HHC) / Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD), government or public health operational workflows.

Ability to lead meetings with users of varying technical and data understanding.

Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to probe for information about the underlying needs for a report request.

Ability to analyze data and assist with identifying ways to measure key performance indicators.

Demonstrates knowledge and skill with business intelligence software and promotes continued learning.

Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability and willingness to learn new content areas and new skills quickly.

Professional attitude and work habits.

Understands business functions related to the application.

May work with restricted or confidential information. Must maintain confidentiality of any sensitive information according to corporate procedures.
