About the Mission:

The Department of State has engaged VMD to manage both internal and external-facing informational websites and web applications specifically for the Bureau of Consular Affairs. VMD's objective is to execute migration and decommissioning tasks on legacy websites to facilitate the modernization of its web governance, architecture, and design.

Your Contribution to the Mission:

VMD offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled technology leader to become part of VMD's Department of State Program as a Software Architect. This role will also support VMD's Enterprise Solutions as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and will have a significant influence on the company's growth and technical capabilities. In this position, you will have the chance to:

  • Drive innovation across VMD; act as a senior technologist to propose and implement technology solutions for a diverse range of clients, primarily focused on the Department of State's Consular Affairs to support their mission.
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements and envision future possibilities.
  • Serve as VMD's Software Architecture advocate. Lead and mentor agile teams to define architecture, design, develop, and implement solutions, while also supporting the creation of public-facing web applications.
  • Utilize advanced technical expertise to analyze and troubleshoot database applications and their operational environments.
  • Collaborate as part of a highly skilled Agile team and provide off-hours support as necessary.
  • Act as a consultant to clients and external contract teams to achieve program and release objectives. Contribute to business development initiatives across the company by providing thought leadership on agile development, cloud migration, microservices, and containerization.
  • Effectively communicate modernization technologies and provide expert insights on architectural requirements for success.
  • Quickly grasp and engage with emerging technologies and concepts, including artificial intelligence, big data, and blockchain.
  • Guide the architectural initiatives of the company, including internal support systems and infrastructure, as well as establishing sandboxes for business development in AWS and/or Salesforce.
  • Engage with senior government officials across VMD's portfolio to offer guidance on modernizing government systems and applications.

Required Experience for Success:

  • A minimum of 10 years of overall experience, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in the following technologies, tools, and platforms:
    • Languages: C#, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, XML
    • Frameworks: ASP.NET, .Net 4, WCF, Entity, Design Patterns, ERD
    • Front-end Development: ASP.NET, Bootstrap, AngularJS, MVC, AJAX, Web Services, Kendo
    • Databases: Oracle 11g, PL/SQL, SQLPlus, Toad, SQL Server
    • Platforms/Tools: Visual Studio, TFS, IIS, Windows Server, HTTPS, CLM, GitLab, Selenium, Jenkins
  • Experience with build scripts and continuous integration using tools such as Gitlab, CLM, Jira, Nexus, Docker, Puppet, Jenkins, Gitlab-ci, Beaker, OATS/Selenium, Confluence, Maven, SonarQube, Team Foundation Server (TFS).
  • Recent positions held at the software architect level or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of Networking and Application Security.
  • Extensive experience in Agile methodologies, SDLC, and development processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the Department of State.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices.
  • Proficiency in application-network troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Azure.
  • Knowledge of COTS products such as AEM or Solr.
  • Experience with Java / J2EE / JSP or mobile development.
  • AWS architect certification.
  • Experience with Salesforce.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related IT field.
  • Can Additional Years of Experience Substitute for Degree? No.
  • Minimum Years of Overall Experience: 10.
  • Minimum Years of Specific Experience in Field: 5.
  • Minimum Clearance to Start: Interim Secret.
  • Work Status Allowable: US Citizenship.
