Job Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking a skilled Protection Specialist to join our team in the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) Department in the greater Sacramento, CA area.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and commissioning protective relay replacement projects. This will involve planning, scheduling, conducting, and/or coordinating detailed phases of assigned project work. The position will require travel throughout the state of California, primarily working in substations and hydroelectric facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Makes technical decisions, design recommendations, and performs design reviews for protective relay replacement projects.
  • Provides field demolition and construction support, performs onsite commissioning activities, and offers troubleshooting support for protective relay replacement projects.
  • Reviews relay setting development and coordination, assists with protection system event analysis, develops a relay test plan, and/or SCADA/HMI design.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain PE within one year of hire.
  • 4+ years of engineering and commissioning experience.
  • Experience producing one-lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, control panel elevations, and bills of materials.
  • Knowledge of HV substation equipment, MV electrical (apparatus) equipment including station service, 15 kV switchgear, and protective relaying.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience assisting with onsite commissioning in one or more of the following areas: CT/PT wiring injection/verification, protective relay test, protective relay end-to-end test, functional verification of protection schemes, and CT/PT load verification.
  • Experience assisting with onsite demolition and construction engineering support.
  • Experience applying protection system engineering practices and principles for HV substation and transmission equipment.
  • Familiarity with application of industry standards, such as NERC PRC.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and programming.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and California Electrical Code (CEC).
