Position Summary:
FBM is on the lookout for a meticulous and proactive Senior Tax Compliance Specialist to join our Tax team. The successful candidate will be an essential part of our operations, demonstrating the ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining high levels of satisfaction for both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and review of various tax returns, including sales/use, business & occupation, and gross receipts, ensuring compliance with all applicable U.S. jurisdictions.
  • Review and validate exemption/resale certificates submitted by customers.
  • Maintain an organized system for managing exemption/resale certificates.
  • Process tax adjustments for valid non-taxable sales within the ERP system.
  • Provide expert guidance to business partners regarding product taxability and the nuances of tax resale/exemption certificates across different jurisdictions.
  • Prepare resale certificates for suppliers as needed.
  • Conduct research and ensure compliance with state and local tax regulations and legislative changes.
  • Assist in preparing for sales/use tax audits.
  • Prepare and upload necessary journal entries.
  • Reconcile sales and use tax accounts in the general ledger.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Manage special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field preferred; equivalent experience in accounting will be considered.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in indirect tax and accounting within a multi-unit, multi-state organization.
  • Familiarity with Avalara (AvaTax & ECM) and web-based tax research platforms (CCH Tax Research) is preferred.
  • Experience in the construction or building distribution sector is desirable.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Strong organizational capabilities to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn the existing ERP system and accounting workflows.

  • Must be able to pass a drug screen, physical, and background check after receiving a conditional offer of employment.

Reporting Structure:
This position reports to the Senior Manager of Tax.
