Maintenance Mechanic Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Mechanic Specialist to join our team at Weill Cornell Medicine. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for providing expert-level maintenance and repair services on infrastructure and architectural systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Provides stakeholders with status updates, issues, key activities, and changes to the scope of the overall project.
- Provides direction to other staff assigned to assist in the completion of tasks and trains co-workers in proper methods of completing trades work.
- Completes and submits service requests and preventative maintenance tasks, indicating work performed and time and material spent.
- Develops scope of work for projects and identifies material and labor necessary, obtaining material pricing from vendors.
- Assists in the maintenance of plumbing systems, operates power drain cleaning machines, and performs routine carpentry repair and installation work.
- Assists with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair services on HVAC+R systems and provides assistance in shutdowns of selected utility systems during construction activities.
- Performs general maintenance of machine rooms, including replacing lighting, removing debris, and general cleaning.
- Unloads and distributes materials and equipment received to stock and work areas.
- Performs routine daily inspections of utility systems in assigned areas and records operational data, interpreting operational data and making adjustments to improve performance/efficiency and/or resolve operational problems.
- Performs routine plumbing service calls, including repairing minor leaks, replacing fixtures, unclogging drains, and replacing CO2 tanks.
- Maintains mechanical systems, including laboratory air systems, laboratory vacuum systems, sewage, steam, and chilled water piping, pressure reducing stations, pumps, compressors, and dryers.
- Performs routine electrical repair and installation work.
- High School Diploma
- Approximately 3-5 years of experience in general maintenance within a large institution or commercial facility with complex infrastructure systems
- Ability to work on off-shifts as required to accommodate ongoing operations and/or emergencies
- Ability to be available for 24-hour emergency call-ins
- Completion of technical school training program in one of the maintenance trades
- Maintains individual New York City certifications necessary for the operation of various utility systems
The position requires working in a non-office environment with some physical discomforts, including noise, dust, heat, fumes, and other elements continuously present. Periodic work in animal research areas, machine rooms, crawl spaces, areas with restricted access, and noise is required. The ability to grasp, lift, and/or carry or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds and push/pull objects up to 100 pounds is necessary. The position requires the utilization of hand tools, power tools, large wrenches, operation of small to large valves, visually and audibly observing operating equipment, and ability to walk, stand, climb ladders/scaffolds, bend, reach, lift, and carry.
