Position Overview:
Peraton is seeking a Digital Forensic Analyst - Journeyman to join our Department of State Diplomatic Security Cyber Mission (DSCM) program. This role demands exceptional analytical and creative thinking skills to tackle real-world challenges in digital forensics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize expertise in digital forensics to conduct thorough examinations, ensuring the integrity of recovered digital evidence aligns with court admissibility standards.
  • Act as a Mid-level Digital Forensic Analyst with 5-8 years of relevant experience, providing detailed forensic analysis of mobile devices, electronic storage, cloud systems, and personal computers.
  • Execute forensic examinations of digital evidence by applying recognized scientific best practices for the identification, collection, analysis, and interpretation of digital evidence in both criminal and civil contexts.
  • Apply skills to perform in-depth forensic analysis across various operating systems, including Android, Apple iOS/MAC, Microsoft Windows, and Linux.
  • Conduct forensic analysis of diverse file systems such as APFS, NTFS, ExFAT, HFS/+, EXT2/3/4, and FAT/FAT32.
  • Analyze system and third-party application databases effectively.
  • Maintain proficiency in industry-standard forensic tools and software, including Magnet Axiom, Cellebrite Inseyets, PA/UFED, Oxygen Forensic Detective, EnCase, X-Ways, and Nuix.
  • Provide on-site support during search warrant executions, focusing on the identification, collection, packaging, handling, and chain-of-custody procedures for digital evidence.
  • Offer on-scene expertise regarding mobile devices and computer systems, addressing issues such as encryption, RAM captures, and field acquisition considerations.
  • Produce detailed notes, reports, and illustrative exhibits for judicial proceedings, and deliver expert witness testimony to clarify examination findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with government and contractor leadership, forensic analysts, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to uphold forensically sound procedures in the imaging, analysis, and presentation of digital evidence.
  • Stay informed about advancements in digital forensics, cybersecurity, forensic law, and emerging technologies.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a digital forensic examiner, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of at least one recognized forensic certification, such as SANS (GCFE, GASF), IACIS (CFCE, CMFE), NCFI (BCERT, MDE), Cellebrite (CCME, CCO+CCPA), or OpenText (EnCE).
  • In-depth knowledge of forensic analysis of mobile device hardware, operating systems, and various computer file systems.
  • Experience in on-scene processing and handling of electronic evidence during search and seizure operations.
  • Proficiency in using forensic software tools and mobile advanced extraction tools.
  • Ability to write comprehensive reports that convey complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • U.S. citizenship and the capability to obtain necessary security clearances.

Preferred:

  • Additional certifications from recognized institutions, such as Cyber Crime Center (CDFE, CDMC), Cellebrite (CCO+CCPA), X-Ways (X-PERT), or Magnet Forensics (MCFE).
