POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Manufacturing Operations Manager will oversee and coordinate all facets of the Bus Assembly Manufacturing Operations, managing a workforce of over 500 team members in a multi-shift environment.
This position is vital for achieving both long-term and short-term production and sales objectives by establishing clear targets and implementing strategic initiatives to foster continuous improvement and process optimization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure Workplace Safety:
Uphold a safe and healthy work environment by actively tracking safety metrics, advocating best safety practices, and proactively identifying and resolving potential safety concerns.
Manage Daily Operations:
Strategically plan, direct, and oversee the daily operations of over 500 team members across various shifts in the bus assembly facility, ensuring smooth and efficient production flow.
Achieve Production Goals:
Supervise production processes to guarantee that weekly sales targets, product quality standards, and timely delivery are achieved in accordance with the master production and delivery schedules.
Leadership and Direction:
Provide robust leadership to the manufacturing team, offering daily guidance to Department Managers to ensure alignment with plant objectives and goals.
Drive LEAN Culture:
Cultivate a culture of LEAN manufacturing, emphasizing continuous improvement, problem-solving, and waste reduction across all manufacturing sectors.
Develop and Mentor Staff:
Provide ongoing leadership and mentorship to team members, supporting their development and succession planning to build a strong, capable workforce.
Budget Management:
Formulate, analyze, and maintain operational budgets, ensuring effective resource allocation and cost-efficient operations.
Regulatory Compliance:
Oversee operations to ensure full compliance with state and federal regulations, maintaining the highest standards of operational integrity.
Labor Relations:
Foster positive labor/management relations by addressing issues promptly and effectively, ensuring a harmonious workplace environment.
Sustainability Initiatives:
Support and advocate for the company-wide sustainability commitment, driving initiatives that contribute to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a production setting, with a proven history of success in managing large teams within a manufacturing context.
Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Management, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
Industry Knowledge:
Comprehensive understanding of plant operations and production methodologies, particularly in a low-volume and high-mix manufacturing environment.
LEAN Expertise:
Proven experience in implementing and managing LEAN manufacturing principles, with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement and waste reduction.
Business Acumen:
Solid knowledge of business and management principles, including budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and human resources management.
Safety and Quality Focus:
Strong commitment to safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory management, and stewardship processes.
People Management Skills:
Effective people management and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to attract, coach, develop, and retain top talent.
Interpersonal Skills:
Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive demeanor, capable of building strong relationships and fostering a collaborative work environment.
