Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Driver Instructor and Trainer to join our team at Mount Diablo Unified School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and conducting training programs for new bus drivers, as well as developing and conducting in-service training programs to evaluate the driving performance of bus drivers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive driver training program for school bus drivers.
  • Conduct individual driving sessions with new trainees and review their progress.
  • Conduct in-service training programs and observe drivers to evaluate their driving performance and route analysis.
  • Review and revise the training program to ensure compliance with new laws and regulations.
  • Plan and develop special programs on school bus safety and train driver personnel to present these programs.
  • Screen and evaluate new applicants and arrange for school bus driver examinations with California State Highway Patrol officials.
  • Investigate accidents and prepare reports.
  • Evaluate the driving performance of personnel who will be driving vehicles in other departments.
  • Participate in training programs related to driver training.
  • Maintain a variety of records for the district and the state.
  • Prepare reports as required.
  • Operate a school bus over a designated route as needed.
Requirements
  • Satisfactory completion of the course of study offered for School Bus Driver Trainers by the California Department of Education.
  • Possession of a valid California Class B/P Driver's License and a School Bus Driver's Certificate issued by the California Highway Patrol/Department of Motor Vehicles.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in an office environment and will be required to drive a vehicle to conduct work. The ability to see and hear to conduct work, and speaking to exchange information is essential. Sitting for extended periods of time, reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally, or bending at waist to retrieve and store files is also required. Reading, writing, and operating a computer keyboard is necessary for this role.
