Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for dedicated, innovative, and detail-oriented individuals for the role of EH & S Intern. This internship will provide the opportunity to collaborate with SEL's Environmental Health & Safety team and various division representatives to aid in the development and upkeep of environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:As an EH&S Intern, your typical responsibilities may include:
- Supporting data collection and management related to EH&S elements such as greenhouse gas emissions, waste management, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and other health and safety considerations.
- Assisting in the creation and maintenance of procedures (PROC), work instructions (WI), and Best-Known Methods (BKM).
- Participating in industrial hygiene and environmental sampling activities and preparing related reports.
- Contributing to the development and delivery of EH&S training for SEL personnel.
- Engaging in proactive risk mitigation and incident prevention initiatives.
- Assisting in incident investigations to determine root causes and suggest corrective measures.
- Researching environmental and safety regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
This position may be suitable for you if you:
- Are currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Human Factors/Ergonomics, or a related field.
- Are proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Can commit to part-time work throughout the year, up to 40 hours weekly.
- Possess strong skills in data analysis, writing, documentation, and communication.
- Are eager to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities.
- Can work collaboratively within a team setting.
- Have a passion for Environmental, Health, and Safety issues.
- Have satisfactory background check results and negative drug test results.
- Experience with SharePoint, Power Apps, Workday, or Power BI.
- Familiarity with EPA, OSHA, and other EH&S regulations.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, GHG Protocol, and ACGIH standards.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Capability to lift up to 40 pounds.
