POSITION SUMMARY

This internship offers an opportunity to assist the Stormwater Management team in the oversight, planning, and protection of the City’s stormwater resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support Environmental Specialists in the Clean Rivers Program, participating in monthly and dry weather sampling events, which involve field verification and documentation of storm drain outfall characteristics.
  • Organize and enter various environmental management records, including inspection and sampling data, into relevant databases.
  • Examine plats and engineering designs to identify post-construction structural controls, ensuring accurate entry into stormwater databases.
  • Carry out additional related tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient in standard PC applications such as Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and GPS technology.
  • Strong organizational and coordination abilities to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to analyze water quality data, reports, maps, and specifications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with citizens, staff, and other departments.
  • Able to work in various environments, including indoor, outdoor, and construction zones.
  • Skilled in interpreting engineering plans to identify stormwater-related issues.
  • Capable of producing clear and concise reports.
  • Adept at receiving and processing detailed information through verbal communication.
  • Competent in performing various physical tasks such as visual observation, carrying, calculations, and writing.
  • Qualified to operate a motor vehicle.
Educational Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled as a sophomore or higher in an Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, or Water Quality/Resources program at an accredited institution.
  • Must hold a valid Driver's License (minimum Class C).

This position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check, a motor vehicle record check, and drug and alcohol testing.
