Electrical Systems Technician (Data Center Operations / Electrical Services)

Electrical Systems Technicians play a crucial role in the instrumentation and control of our power distribution systems at our Data Center facilities. Responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to, configuring communication devices and industrial network topologies, uploading HMI/PLC software, installing input/output modules and central processing units, integrating third-party Energy Performance Management Systems (EPMS), and conducting initial testing, operation, troubleshooting, and modifications of client equipment and systems, including medium and low voltage switchgear, transformers, metering systems, power monitoring, power quality analysis, and protective relay configurations.

This position includes a comprehensive training program that may require travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the installation and verification of electrical and electronic components for systems and service agreements, including maintenance and testing of switchgear, motor controls, circuit breakers, panel boards, transformers, and surge protection devices. Responsible for vibration analysis, battery maintenance, power monitoring, and protective relay upkeep.
  • Configure communication devices and industrial network topologies; upload HMI/PLC software; install input/output modules and CPUs.
  • Facilitate the integration of third-party EPMS; conduct initial testing, operation, troubleshooting, and modifications of client systems.
  • Test medium or low voltage circuit breakers and analyze test results for metal-clad or vacuum switchgear.
  • Conduct Equipment Condition Assessments.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical control circuits.
  • Maintain organized job documentation.
  • Provide on-site support for programming, start-up, verification, commissioning, and validation processes. Participate in job site final inspections, complete all job closeout documentation, and offer training to clients.
  • Guide client personnel on proper operation and routine inspections. Train clients to maintain and adjust complex equipment. Provide expert advice and technical assistance to support staff and mentor junior employees. Document and report all job activities.
  • Plan and estimate labor categories, material costs, and transportation expenses for complex proposals. Review task plans, drawings, and installation schematics, providing ongoing guidance throughout project execution.
  • Be available for emergency and relief assignments as needed.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical control circuits, with the ability to obtain thermography certification.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the installation and/or maintenance of Power Automation Switchboards.
  • 5+ years of experience utilizing electrical test equipment for AC and DC high potential testing, transformer turns ratio testing, and other power system testing practices.
  • Proficient in interpreting protective coordination studies and testing protective relays.
  • Ability to read bills of material, electrical schematics, and power system study reports.
  • Experience with the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of low and medium voltage power distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with arc flash and shock hazards related to 13.8 kV systems and Siemens switchgear.
  • Knowledge of ANSI, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and NETA codes and standards.
  • Physical capability to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 75 pounds unassisted.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license with limited violations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in a relevant field.
  • Certifications such as AVO, NETA, and NICET.
