Position Summary:The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s operations, financial management, human resources, information technology, and compliance. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a key member of the senior leadership team, the COO will play a pivotal role in developing, executing, and managing JFNA's operational frameworks and procedures. This role will ensure the efficient management of daily operations, allowing the CEO to concentrate on broader strategic goals.
The COO will collaborate closely with the CEO and fellow executives (including the Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Impact Officer, Chief Philanthropy Officer, and Managing Director of Jewish Education) to develop, implement, and oversee the operational elements of the annual budget. The COO will establish structure, efficiency, and accountability across all organizational departments.
Key Responsibilities:Operational Management
- Design, develop, and implement operational policies that align with the organization's strategic objectives.
- Establish and maintain a cohesive structure for the effective delivery of administrative operations (Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology).
- Analyze operational data to identify areas for enhancement and implement necessary improvements.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of the annual operating budget, ensuring effective management within this framework and accurate reporting on progress and challenges.
- Manage relationships with external vendors for Accounting, HR, and IT services, including contract negotiations and legal reviews as needed.
- Administer the annual compensation process, conducting market research to ensure equitable salary structures across the organization.
- Act as the primary liaison to the Finance Committee, interpreting financial results and implications.
- Ensure sound fiscal accountability through the development and management of operating budgets.
- Summarize critical financial matters for discussions with the CEO, highlighting risks and business impacts.
- Coordinate processes with relevant foundations regarding funds and audit collaborations.
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead and mentor team members, providing guidance and fostering a positive organizational culture.
- Collaborate with the CEO to implement the organizational vision, strategy, and operational plans.
- Build effective relationships across departments including philanthropy, education, marketing, and impact.
- Provide oversight for all operational functions, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Anticipate and plan for necessary changes to organizational policies and practices to support strategic directions.
- Facilitate communication and information flow within teams and across the organization.
- Optimize systems and processes for efficiency, productivity, and financial stability.
- Regularly evaluate departmental performance to inform discussions with the CEO regarding outcomes and challenges.
- Manage team performance through clear goal-setting, progress tracking, and timely feedback.
- A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in relevant roles.
- At least five years of experience in leadership positions with indirect reports.
- Experience in non-profit organizations is preferred.
