Job Overview

Southeast Kansas Mental Health Center is seeking to hire 2 Clinical Blood Collection Specialists.

POSITION TITLE: Clinical Blood Collection Specialist

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have completed a recognized phlebotomy training program. A minimum of six months of experience in a clinical environment is preferred. Successful completion of on-site competency evaluations is mandatory. Candidates must also pass background checks, including KBI and DCF child and adult abuse registries, as well as a motor vehicle screening. Reliable and insured transportation is essential.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, patients, and other stakeholders.
  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and assessment capabilities.
  4. Familiarity with medical instruments and equipment necessary for patient care.
  5. Capability to remain calm and composed in emergency situations.

WORK SCHEDULE: This is a regular full-time position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: This role necessitates a collaborative professional relationship with the laboratory manager, staff, and patients to ensure high-quality blood collection services. The Clinical Blood Collection Specialist will work in conjunction with healthcare providers and nursing staff, demonstrating discretion, patience, and empathy when interacting with patients.

  1. Maintain proficiency in the use of medical instruments and equipment.
  2. Prepare patients for blood draws, clearly explaining procedures and addressing any inquiries.
  3. Confirm patient details and accurately label blood samples.
  4. Adhere to all health and safety regulations to ensure a clean working environment.
  5. Collect necessary medical testing supplies, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags, and test tubes.
  6. Utilize a Laboratory Information System (LIS) for patient order entry, sampling, result reporting, and inquiries.
  7. Conduct proficiency testing as assigned.
  8. Review the procedure manual annually and communicate updates to the laboratory manager.
  9. Uphold strict patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations and relevant federal and state laws.
  10. Perform additional duties as directed by the Supervisor or Chief Executive Officer.
