Surgical Technologist, Part Time

As a Surgical Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures. Your primary responsibility will be to scrub in for designated surgeries and carry out general O.R. duties, adhering to Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington preoperative nursing care standards, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington policies, and contract agreements.
Essential Responsibilities:
Perioperative Planning and Preparation:
Collect data and prepare for surgery in accordance with surgeons' direction or preference.
Select and prepare supplies and equipment.
Establish and maintain a sterile field.
Environmental Safety and Infection Control:
Wear required attire correctly.
Select and prepare necessary supplies and equipment.
Check all equipment for working order and report or correct unsafe conditions.
Assure physical preparation of the clinical area, including damp dusting and placing furniture.
Verify the integrity and sterility of sterile packages, open supplies aseptically, and establish and maintain a sterile field.
Demonstrate correct body mechanics.
Comply with policies, procedures, and recommended practices pertaining to the use, care, and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
Communication, Coordination of Care & Orientation:
Demonstrate skills in communicating with the patient and/or family/significant other.
Cooperate and communicate effectively with other healthcare team members to accomplish unit workload.
Establish and maintain effective communication with the supervisor.
Proficient Performance of Assigned Functions:
Identify breaks in sterile technique and correct or report them to proper healthcare team members.
Display dexterity in the use of surgical instruments throughout the procedure.
Prepare and know the specific uses of all needed equipment and supplies.
Continually maintain a neat and orderly sterile field as dictated by the sequence of the procedure.
Participate in counting procedures per established policy at the appropriate times during the surgical procedure.

Professional Development:
Take responsibility for ongoing education and professional development.
Identify formal/informal opportunities and initiate activities to achieve goals.
Collaborate with the unit manager or designee in completing self and colleague/team performance reviews.
Adhere to KFHPW policies on attendance and punctuality.
Participate in staff orientation and student activities.
Apply the QA/I process to care delivery.
Promote and participate in professional meetings, conferences, and groups in and outside of KFHPW to keep current in Surgical Technology.
Pass both Competency requirements for clinical staff and unit-specific competencies annually.
Basic Qualifications:
Graduate of an approved school of Surgical Technology or equivalent hospital or Armed Forces training.
Surgical Technologist Registration (Washington)
Basic Life Support required at hire.
Additional Requirements:
Communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional affiliation and certification preferred by date of hire/transfer.
Minimum two (2) years of current continuous O.R. experience in surgical specialty.
