Job Summary

We're seeking a Jr. Commissioning Engineer to join our Lancaster, PA office. As a key member of our team, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our clients' utility substation systems.

Responsibilities
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment.
  • Plan, coordinate, perform, and document the commissioning of various utility substation protection, control, and power circuits in accordance with TRC's and Client's requirements.
  • Participate in project meetings, including kickoff meetings, planning meetings, progress meetings, and lessons learned meetings.
  • Assist in developing project-specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or any other assigned project-specific documentation.
  • Identify risks and associated mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation that includes project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results, and analyses.
  • Ensure proper project drawing management and general housekeeping is kept onsite at all times.
  • Make certain all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents.
  • Develop detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment.
  • Assist other engineers and technicians, as required, during commissioning and startup of systems and equipment.
  • Conduct TRC's formal walkdown procedure prior to energizing any equipment.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering from an accredited school or University and zero to two years related experience and/or training is required.
  • Be available for out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time with the Mid-Atlantic.
  • Be available to work flexible hours, weekends, overtime, holidays, and night work.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills and be able to communicate and negotiate effectively with clients, agencies, and the general public.
  • Strong PC skills and experience with Adobe and Microsoft programs.
  • Valid driver's license issued by state of residence and in good standing is required.
  • Ability to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Intermediate understanding of electricity.
  • Basic knowledge of (or the ability to learn) electrical protection systems, including relay communications.
  • Basic understanding of (or the ability to learn) AC and DC schematics, wiring, and drawings, one-line and three-line interconnection diagrams.
  • Understand design intent of all protection and control (P-C) circuits.
  • Basic testing knowledge of (or the ability to learn) medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment.
  • Perform basic apparatus testing and interpret test results with supervision.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to learn test equipment specific software to accurately conduct and document test activities.
  • Basic testing and commissioning knowledge of (or the ability to learn) substation utility protection and control circuits.
  • Perform commissioning activities and interpret results with supervision.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to learn commissioning methods to accurately conduct and document commissioning activities.
