About the Role

The Senior Director of Development and Communications will lead Safe Place for Youth's fundraising and communication programs to achieve the organization's aggressive financial and relational goals. Reporting to the Chief Impact Officer, the SDCDC will work with the organization's Board of Directors and leadership team to maintain and increase financial support and public image for the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Development and Fundraising:
    • Develop and execute multi-year strategic fundraising and communications goals and annual work plans in coordination with the CIO.
    • Oversee a comprehensive database of donors and supporters, collaborating with the CIO, CEO, Board, and development team on donor identification, cultivation, and solicitation strategies.
    • Motivate, supervise, evaluate, and mentor the development team to create a supportive and productive work environment.
    • Manage a portfolio of high net worth donors and prospects, developing tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans.
    • Manage a robust corporate donor portfolio, responsible for research, communication, and ongoing stewardship with existing and potential companies.
  • Marketing and Communications:
    • Oversee the implementation of an integrated Marketing & Communications strategy based on the brand's positioning, organizational objectives, market landscape, and audience understanding.
    • Provide strategic direction to the Marketing & Communications Manager in creating communications and marketing materials, ensuring a consistent message and look that builds a case for support.
    • Serve as a key spokesperson for Safe Place for Youth, advocating for youth experiencing homelessness.
    • Oversee public relations activities to build the organization's reputation and raise awareness about youth homelessness.
    • Align communications strategies with brand vision and growth strategies, considering audience, message, medium, timing, and ROI.
  • Administrative:
    • Oversee and manage Development and Communications team budgets aligned with organizational goals.
    • Work with the CIO, Executive Leadership Team, and external agency partners to implement Safe Place for Youth's three-year strategic plan.
    • Participate in Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) and ensure continuous quality improvement within the department.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of Safe Place for Youth.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • 7+ years of experience in developing fundraising strategies and managing year-round fundraising efforts, preferably for a growth-stage organization.
  • Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills to engage with diverse donors and partners.
  • Ability to create and implement efficient fundraising processes from scratch.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities to convey the organization's mission and impact.
  • Experience in managing communications programs that drive measurable stakeholder engagement and growth in support of an organization's development strategy.
  • A proven track record of creating successful strategic messaging, campaigns, and initiatives that drive corporate objectives and stakeholder engagement.
  • Advanced knowledge of current and emerging marketing trends and practices.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate across the organization.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and political acumen.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Some nights and weekends may be required.
  • Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary- up to 15-20 pounds at times.
