ROLE SUMMARY

The individual in this role will undertake a range of responsibilities, both administrative and manual, to support the daily functions of the Sanitation Division within the Department of Public Works. Responsibilities include monitoring, inspecting, maintaining, and enforcing solid waste collection programs and routes. The incumbent will drive daily waste collection routes, ensuring compliance from contractors and residents with sanitation regulations. Documentation of findings through written reports and photographs is essential, along with issuing citations for violations. The role also involves the collection of uncollected waste items and assisting with emergency clean-ups.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position entails a combination of outdoor work in varying weather conditions and office tasks.
  • Utilizes PC-based systems and other office equipment.
  • Errors in this role could disrupt sanitary services or lead to regulatory noncompliance, resulting in potential legal repercussions.
  • Noise levels may be elevated due to traffic and other urban activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive daily trash collection routes and address issues related to trash, bulk, and yard waste.
  • Collect and clean solid waste in designated areas.
  • Investigate and respond to complaints from the public.
  • Monitor contractors to ensure adherence to contracts and quality of work.
  • Maintain compliance and operations at landfill and transfer stations.
  • Assist in the annual sanitation audit.
  • Issue sanitation tickets in accordance with city regulations.
  • Complete assigned work orders efficiently.
  • Foster positive relationships with colleagues, contractors, and vendors.
  • Oversee the city's solid waste management program and related environmental protection activities.
  • Respond to inquiries from citizens and businesses regarding waste collection and disposal practices.
  • Gather and summarize data, prepare reports, and present findings to management.
  • Advise on relevant codes, regulations, and standards related to sanitation.
  • Organize and maintain records and documents as assigned.
  • Prepare correspondence and reports as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Background check and drug screening required.
  • Ability to meet high standards for quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Attention to detail and effective time management skills are essential.
  • Familiarity with city operations is beneficial.
  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and write routine reports.
  • Effective communication skills for group settings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
