Job Title: Director of Property Accounting

HJH Investments is seeking a highly skilled Director of Property Accounting to join our team. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for overseeing all accounting functions related to our commercial real estate portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process for all properties, monitor and analyze budget variances, and develop and maintain long-term financial forecasts.
  • Team Management: Manage and mentor the property accounting team, assign tasks, set goals, and evaluate performance.
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable: Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments, and manage tenant billing and collections.
  • Property Management Support: Collaborate with property managers to provide financial support and analysis, assist in the preparation of operating expense reconciliations, and ensure proper accounting treatment of property transactions.
  • Compliance and Controls: Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, and coordinate with external auditors during audits and reviews.
  • Systems and Process Improvement: Evaluate and enhance accounting systems and processes, implement best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy, and stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements.
  • Strategic Planning: Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes, provide financial analysis to support business development initiatives, and assist in due diligence for acquisitions and dispositions.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a management role within the commercial real estate industry.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent collaborator and communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Self-disciplined and exercises good judgment.
  • Multi-tasker who can drive results while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Proactive in problem-solving, taking on new projects and designing better processes.
  • Motivated with a desire to learn and grow within this role and the organization.
