Job Overview

The City of Dover is looking for a dedicated individual to engage in essential duties related to the management of a municipal gymnasium and weight training center. This is a part-time, seasonal role requiring availability during evenings and weekends, with an expected commitment of 25 to 30 hours weekly. Compensation is set at $13.27 per hour.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage the collection of fees for memberships, activity registrations, and daily access to the facility.
  2. Address public inquiries regarding recreational programs through various communication channels, including phone, written correspondence, and in-person interactions. Actively promote and provide information about recreational offerings to community service organizations, other departments, and the general public.
  3. Execute a range of miscellaneous tasks such as answering phone calls, processing activity registrations, inputting data into facility management software, verifying memberships, collecting fees, and overseeing the check-in and check-out process for groups using the facility.
  4. Perform custodial and maintenance tasks as necessary to ensure the gymnasium and facility are well-kept.
  5. Open and close assigned recreational facilities, ensuring security for gym areas including weight and cardio rooms, locker rooms, and meeting spaces.
  6. Potentially lead and officiate various sports programs if qualified, including operating the score clock.
  7. Maintain equipment and supplies in accordance with budgetary constraints.
  8. Foster and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, and the public.
  9. Stay informed about and adhere to safe work practices related to assigned duties.
  10. Carry out additional related tasks as required.
Qualifications and Skills

Applicants should possess considerable knowledge of sports, recreation, and leisure activities suitable for all age groups. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential. Candidates must be able to follow both oral and written instructions and comply with departmental rules and regulations. Proficiency in handling cash transactions and providing change is required. The ability to articulate ideas effectively in both spoken and written formats is necessary. Experience in leading and instructing others in various work activities is preferred. Good physical fitness is also a requirement.


Education and Certifications

Previous experience in a related field or in a role emphasizing public relations, particularly in recreation or physical education, is desirable. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Certification in First Aid and CPR/AED is a plus.
