Clinical Interview

Patient Types:

Multisystem Trauma:
Patients with complex injuries, including sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, GI bleeds, ETOH/IVDA, SI, psych, COVID, and simple neuro conditions (CVAs, TIAs)

Surgical Patients:
Orthopedic, general surgery, and bariatric patients
No open-heart surgeries or dialysis

Patient Ratios:

Multisystem Trauma:
Day: 1:4-5 patients per nurse

Night: 1:5-6 patients per nurse

ED Holding:
Patient ratios depend on the service line (PCU, MS, ICU)

Mixed assignment of COVID and non-COVID patients

CNA:
Days: 1:8-10 patients per nurse

Nights: 1:10-12 patients per nurse

Required Certifications:

Essential:
BLS, NIHSS certifications

Preferred:

ACLS

Skills Required:
Central lines, IV antibiotics, heparin drips, nebulizer treatments, dressing changes, various drains, and ostomies
Basic tele experience (remote)
Able to draw labs (preferred)
General surgery recovery, especially in orthopedic patients
Will require a rhythm interpretation exam

Support on the Unit:
CNA - blood sugar monitoring, removing foley/IVs, placing external catheters, EKGs

Charge Nurse:
Occasional patient assignment with charge nurse responsibilities (dependent on staffing)

Phlebotomy:
Shared responsibility with nursing staff

RT and hospitalist available 24/7
OT, PT, ST available 7 days a week
Unit secretary available 24/7
Code Blue team

RRT:

Charting System/Equipment:
EPIC (preferred)
Alaris IV pumps
Pyxis medication dispensing
Central monitoring with tele tech

Floating:
Mid-shift floating possible
PCU - low-acuity patients (no drips)
Women's services - gynecological patients (MS level)

Sitter 1:1 care (dependent on level of care)
LD or ER - not taking patient assignment, helping hands/resource/within scope of practice (vital signs/SI sitter)
