Position Overview: A qualified attorney licensed to practice in the state who engages in significant legal activities on behalf of clients. Maintains strong relationships with clients while upholding confidentiality in all client interactions. Involved in the firm's marketing initiatives and plays a key role in client acquisition. May operate independently or under the guidance of senior attorneys within the firm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintains active membership in the state bar and fulfills all mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements annually.
  • Adheres to the ethical standards outlined by the Rules of Professional Conduct and complies with all stipulations set forth by the firm's professional liability insurer.
  • Establishes retainer agreements and payment plans with clients for legal services, as directed by the firm's fee structure.
  • Oversees accounts receivable to ensure timely payments.
  • Evaluates newly assigned cases and ongoing matters to provide effective legal representation until resolution.
  • Responsible for the compilation and verification of all correspondence, documents, and pleadings related to legal representation.
  • Conducts essential legal research utilizing available resources, including libraries and digital databases.
  • Develops and delivers comprehensive legal opinions to clients.
  • Negotiates effectively, when suitable, to settle matters on behalf of clients.
  • Keeps clients informed about the progress of their cases through regular communication.
  • Represents clients in district, state, or federal courts, or in administrative settings such as town meetings or hearings.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of legal principles and practices, typically acquired through earning a Juris Doctor degree and passing the Maine State Bar Exam.
  • Strong attention to detail, required for up to 90% of work time.
  • Analytical capabilities essential for conducting thorough and complex legal analyses.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse clientele, attorneys, and staff, providing information with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via telephone, ensuring authorized information is conveyed with respect.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations for client-related legal matters.
  • Flexibility to work beyond 40 hours per week to fulfill the essential duties of the role.
