Division Insight:

The Substation Engineering Division at Ampirical Solutions is recognized nationally for its expertise in the planning and design of new substations and high voltage electrical systems. Our team's diverse talents enable us to provide comprehensive substation and switchyard design services, leveraging our technical knowledge to create tailored solutions for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and select appropriate protection and control schemes for transmission and distribution substations.
  • Choose suitable protective devices for substation equipment.
  • Prepare scopes of work and cost estimates for substation evaluation and design.
  • Determine proper equipment sizing and manage material procurement.
  • Maintain compliance with customer standards regarding relay protection.
  • Create comprehensive drawing packages for substation relay protection, including wiring diagrams, schematics, and one-line diagrams.
  • Engage with clients and vendors effectively.
  • Conduct load calculations for various substation components.
  • Provide field support and pre-inspection for turn-key substation projects.
  • Mentor junior engineers in the field.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in engineering/designing electrical systems within the Utilities or Energy sector.
  • Familiarity with ETAP, WinIGS, IEEE 88/998.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Bentley MicroStation, and/or Bentley Substation software for 2D and 3D modeling is advantageous.
  • PE Certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of SCADA, automation, relay settings, RTU configuration, and Protection & Controls engineering concepts is a plus.
  • Experience in the electric utility or petrochemical industries is beneficial.
  • BSEE Degree with 6+ years of relevant experience is desirable.
