Job Title: RN - Poison Center Specialist

Nebraska Medicine is seeking a highly skilled RN - Poison Center Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our poison center, you will play a vital role in providing expert guidance and support to healthcare professionals and consumers regarding poison exposures.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide informational assistance by telephone to healthcare professionals and consumers about poison exposures.
  • Obtain complete histories, assess poisoning severity, and make appropriate treatment recommendations.
  • Refer patients to healthcare facilities as necessary and contact healthcare providers to provide treatment recommendations for referred patients.
  • Act as a clinical information resource by training and mentoring students and colleagues.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of four years of nursing experience in a patient-care setting, with a minimum of two years of recent critical care nursing experience.
  • Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program or graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program with a minimum of one year poison center experience.
  • Ability to perform prolonged mental concentration to read and gather information.
  • Skill in typing and use of computer.
  • Ability to perform complex math calculations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including night, weekend, and holiday shifts as assigned.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, or Registered Pharmacist in the state of Nebraska.
  • Required to take the American Association of Poison Control Centers Certification Exam for Specialists in Poison Information (CSPI) when eligible and required to pass the exam within three administrations after meeting the eligibility criteria.
  • Maintenance of certification by successfully completing the CSPI examination every seven years.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program.
  • Master's degree in nursing from an accredited school/college of nursing.
  • Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program.
  • Certification as a Specialist in Poison Information by the American Association of Poison Control Centers.
