Job Overview

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is seeking a highly skilled Certified Medical Assistant Professional to provide clinical support to physicians and nurses. This role involves assisting patients and visitors with questions and concerns, while also performing clerical tasks such as scheduling appointments and checking in/out visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical support to physicians and nurses, including taking vital signs and preparing patients for examinations.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments, greeting patients, and checking them in/out.
  • Collect deposits and co-pay amounts at registration and/or check out.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and complete patient pre-assessment.
  • Prepare medication listings for physicians and review them at each visit to ensure accuracy.
  • Contact physician offices for charts and referrals, and radiology centers for reports.
  • Maintain patient charts, complete disability forms upon request, and maintain HIPAA documents.
  • Maintain proper inventory and remove expired medications, ordering supplies as needed.
  • Maintain biohazard waste logs to ensure compliance with waste disposal regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Clinical Services Coordinator, Physician, and/or Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred.
  • Certification through the American Medical Technologist (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Health Career Association (NHA), MedCA, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider required.

Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, and working outside in temperature extremes. The employee must be able to work from elevated areas, work in confined/cramped spaces, and bend at the waist. Additionally, the employee must be able to reach overhead, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, fully use both legs, and use lower extremities for balance and coordination.
