The State and Local Sales and Use Tax division offers critical insights to our clients, addressing their most urgent sales tax challenges.

Our sales tax specialists engage with a diverse range of industries and tax jurisdictions, assisting clients in identifying solutions and making informed decisions through comprehensive research of tax regulations, representing clients in tax disputes, and proposing strategies to reduce their sales tax obligations.



Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Manager, Sales and Use Tax at RSM will undertake the following duties, centered around three fundamental areas: Technical & Quality Expertise, People & Talent Management, and Client Service/Business Development.

Specific Duties:

1. Deliver exceptional sales and use tax advisory and planning services to multi-state corporations, dedicating approximately 60% of your time to this effort.
2. Drive business development for the State and Local tax practice by generating new revenue from existing clients, cross-selling services, and cultivating new client relationships, allocating around 30% of your time to these activities.
3. Act as a Career Advisor, mentor, or coach to one or more team members, providing timely and constructive performance feedback, which will take up about 10% of your time.
4. Collaborate effectively with clients, local and regional RSM SALT teams, and the broader RSM tax and consulting teams.
5. Oversee various sales and use tax consulting projects, including technical research memoranda, nexus studies, exposure quantification, voluntary disclosures, audit defense, and appeals, among others.
6. Lead and manage complex engagements, focusing on delivering high-value, quality tax advice while seeking to expand service offerings to clients.

Basic Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- One of the following credentials is required: CPA, CMI, JD, or LLM.
- At least eight (8) years of experience in providing sales and use tax consulting services within public accounting, consulting, or law firms.
- Comprehensive knowledge of various state and local sales and use tax laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, along with expertise in tax planning, restructuring, due diligence, audit defense, and state controversy work.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.

- Exceptional organizational and time management skills; adept at prioritizing multiple tasks.

Compensation Range: $137,700 - $276,700

Selected candidates will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on individual and firm performance.
