The Microsoft Turing team is at the forefront of engineering and applied research, focusing on advanced deep learning models, large language models, and innovative conversational search experiences. Our team leads the development of platforms and innovations that enhance conversational search and core copilot functionalities across Microsoft's extensive ecosystem, including Bing Chat, Office, and Windows.

We are dedicated to enhancing user experiences across Microsoft's products and services by tackling high-value scenarios. Our team has successfully implemented capabilities in various Microsoft applications, including Autosuggest, new features in Microsoft Word, quick replies in Outlook, Smart Compose in Word, image enhancement models, recommendations, and enterprise search functionalities for Microsoft SharePoint, among others.

Our Impact
The new experiences we deliver are powered by large-scale, deep learning-based enterprise search and question-answering systems, which process vast amounts of data and serve millions of users with minimal latency.

Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will:

  • Lead projects from conception through design, experimentation, and deployment to end-users.
  • Develop state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning algorithms, utilizing text, images, and video to create world-class search and information retrieval products.
  • Drive applied research to enhance search experiences for both consumers and enterprises.
  • Collaborate within a diverse, geographically distributed team where innovation is encouraged.
  • Influence the design, functionality, security, performance, scalability, and supportability of Microsoft products that leverage our deep learning technologies.

Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you should possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • A Master's Degree in the same fields with at least 3 years of relevant experience; or
  • A Doctorate in the same fields with at least 1 year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:

  • A Master's Degree with 6+ years of relevant experience or a Doctorate with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with machine learning and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • A proven track record of publications in the field.
  • Experience presenting at industry conferences.
  • Hands-on experience in developing and deploying production systems.

Compensation
The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year, with variations based on specific locations.
