POSITION OVERVIEW:

This position involves executing a variety of high-stakes procedures and techniques in response to emergencies, including fire, medical, and rescue situations, to maintain public safety.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties include:

  • Responding to emergency calls, including fire alarms, hazardous material incidents, water rescues, vehicle accidents, and medical emergencies; collaborating with neighboring departments and emergency services.
  • Operating fire apparatus and utilizing various firefighting and rescue equipment; applying fire suppression techniques and conducting rescue operations.
  • Administering emergency medical care, including IV initiation, intubation, and medication administration as necessary.
  • Documenting incidents thoroughly and preparing detailed reports.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the fire station and equipment.
  • Ensuring all personal protective gear is in optimal condition and readily accessible.
  • Conducting inspections and maintenance of firefighting tools and equipment; restocking supplies as needed.
  • Participating in ongoing training for firefighting, emergency rescue, and medical treatment.
  • Delivering fire prevention education and demonstrations to community groups and participating in public events.
  • Conducting inspections of businesses for compliance with fire safety regulations and codes.
  • Maintaining the physical fitness necessary to perform job duties effectively.
  • Being available for critical response during disasters or emergencies, providing essential services as required.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; possession of required certifications or a combination of education and experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of departmental policies and emergency response protocols.
  • Familiarity with fire behavior and suppression methods.
  • Awareness of safety regulations and emergency service laws.
  • Proficiency in firefighting techniques and emergency operations.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
  • Clear communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Analytical skills for incident assessment and operational planning.
CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Certification as a Structural Firefighter from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
  • Emergency Medical Technician certification from the Texas Health Department.
  • Valid State Class B driver's license preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The role involves working in a fire station and various environments while responding to emergencies. Employees may encounter hazardous conditions and must adhere to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment.
