Job Description

As an Architect of Optical I/O Solutions at Coherent, you will play a key role in designing and developing next-generation optical I/O solutions for AI applications. Your expertise in co-packaged optics, optical transceiver assembly, and silicon photonics will be instrumental in defining the architecture for co-packaged optics, including specifications, optical engine block diagrams, mechanical and thermal requirements, electrical/RF routing, and more.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define the integration processes for co-packaged optics, including front-end fabrication processes and backend integration/assembly processes.
  • Work with optical/RF/thermal/mechanical engineers on designing co-packaged optical modules.
  • Design multi-chip hybridized optoelectronic ICs integration processes, including flip-chipped lasers, silicon photonic ICs, and high-speed analog and digital ICs on specialized substrates.
  • Research and develop novel O/E integration package process solutions from concept to design verification for Coherent's next-generation high-speed optical subsystems.
  • Document key R&D results for IP protection and work instructions for operations.
Requirements
  • PhD degree in Applied Physics, Electronics Engineering, Optoelectronics Engineering, Material Science, or related fields.
  • At least 5 years of industry experience with optical transceiver assembly, silicon photonics, and optical and IC packaging.
  • Experience with thermal modeling and mechanical modeling tools for tolerance analysis, CTE mismatch analysis, and long-term reliability analysis.
  • Working knowledge of 2D, 2.5D, and 3D wafer-scale assembly.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and thermal analysis tools.
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and/or Product Lifecycle Management processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Oracle, Agile, and MS Project.
  • Working knowledge and experience with manufacturing support, such as optical component testing and performance evaluation.
