Community Engagement Officer

POSITION SUMMARY
Under general oversight, the role involves executing a range of non-sworn law enforcement responsibilities in support of the Police Department. This includes the enforcement of parking regulations and animal control measures, as well as conducting minor maintenance on parking meters.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor streets and municipal parking areas for compliance with parking regulations.
- Issue citations for parking infractions.
- Manage the impounding of vehicles when necessary and transport stray animals to designated facilities.
- Address and investigate reports of animal-related nuisances, cruelty, and injuries.
- Ensure adherence to local animal control laws.
- Verify animal licenses and provide care for injured animals as needed.
- Maintain accurate records and logs of activities.
- Assist law enforcement with traffic management as required.
- Provide information and assistance to the public regarding regulations and services.
- Conduct meter collections and perform minor repairs when necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Understanding of basic law enforcement principles applicable to non-sworn services.
- Familiarity with record-keeping practices and basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of local geography and public safety practices.
- Ability to engage effectively with the public and manage challenging interactions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of education and experience that equips the candidate with the necessary skills is required. Typically, this includes a high school diploma and two years of experience in roles with significant public interaction.
CERTIFICATIONS: A valid Class C California Driver's License is mandatory, along with a clean driving record. A PC 832 certificate must be obtained within one year of employment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position involves both office and fieldwork, with exposure to various weather conditions and public interactions. The role requires physical stamina to manage diverse tasks, including potential emergency situations.
