Job Summary

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) seeks a seasoned Senior Science Policy Analyst to advance cancer research and its mission to prevent and cure all cancers. This role will work closely with AACR leaders, including the Science Policy and Government Affairs Committee, its relevant Subcommittees, AACR colleagues, and the broader advocacy community to shape science policy initiatives and activities.

About the Role

This position requires an individual with excellent written and oral communication skills, experience in project management, committee management, and consensus building. The successful candidate will be able to analyze complex information, build evidence-based arguments for policy proposals, and bring conflicting points of view to consensus.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support AACR leaders on science policy issues and activities in support of the AACR's Strategic Plan and policy priorities
  • Monitor, research, and analyze science policy initiatives in AACR priority areas
  • Develop policy statements and recommendations for policymakers on Capitol Hill and within federal agencies
  • Attend and summarize policy meetings and events, providing real-time information, analysis, and oversight on science and health policy issues
  • Collaborate with others in the AACR D.C. office to ensure the rapid implementation of research discoveries to improved patient care through a learning health care system and integrated health information technology systems

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A PhD or other advanced degree in a science-related field
  • Three to five years of relevant experience in a public policy environment and general knowledge of the federal policy process
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate to scientific and lay audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex information, build evidence-based arguments for policy proposals, and bring conflicting points of view to consensus

Estimated Salary: $100,000 - $130,000 per year
