GENERAL OVERVIEW

The role involves performing intermediate-level information security and cybersecurity analysis tasks. Key responsibilities encompass cybersecurity incident management, endpoint detection and response (EDR) oversight, network traffic analysis, digital forensics, email protection, and various duties within the cybersecurity operations center. The position operates under general supervision, allowing for a moderate degree of initiative and independent decision-making.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Utilize intrusion detection and prevention systems, firewalls, and other security tools to oversee network activities.
  2. Collaborate with incident response teams to mitigate and eliminate security threats.
  3. Remain updated on emerging security threats and trends, sharing insights with team members.
  4. Examine logs and alerts produced by security systems to detect suspicious behaviors.
  5. Investigate and document security incidents, generating comprehensive reports for management review.
  6. Work alongside other IT and security professionals to strengthen overall security protocols.
  7. Oversee and uphold cybersecurity infrastructure and policies to safeguard information systems against unauthorized access.
  8. Effectively communicate security risks and best practices to non-technical personnel in an accessible manner.
  9. Research cybersecurity and privacy laws, regulations, advisories, alerts, and vulnerabilities.
  10. Maintain regular attendance and adhere to approved work hours in line with agency policies.
  11. Execute additional tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. A Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or a related discipline from an accredited institution is preferred. Alternatively, graduation from an accredited military, vocational, or technical school with a Vocational Associate's Degree focusing on Computer Science or a related field is acceptable.

Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in cybersecurity analysis, information security analysis, or information technology is required. Note: Education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Licensure and Certification: Candidates must obtain one or more of the following certifications within one year of hire: Security+, Network+, CCNA, or equivalent. Other certifications may be considered at management's discretion.

Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with TXDPS, state and federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures is essential.

Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in NIST SP Rev. 2 or ISO/IEC standards, cybersecurity controls, incident response practices, and the ability to configure and monitor cybersecurity infrastructure is necessary.

Interpersonal Skills: The ability to demonstrate poise, tact, and diplomacy while establishing and maintaining professional relationships is crucial. Candidates should embody the core values of Integrity, Excellence, Accountability, and Teamwork.

Organizational Skills: Candidates must be organized, adaptable, and capable of prioritizing tasks in a dynamic environment while meeting deadlines without compromising quality.

Travel and Schedule: Availability for on-call duties, after-hours work, and emergency assignments is necessary. On-site work may be required, with potential for remote work as appropriate.
