Position Overview:

The Ergonomics Specialist will collaborate with fellow ergonomists to exchange best practices and elevate the quality of innovation and service within the Optum workplace Wellbeing framework. The main focus will be to deliver ergonomic services based on established protocols at our client sites. This includes identifying repetitive motions or significant physical stressors in work environments that may lead to musculoskeletal disorders and other health challenges. The role involves assessing how workplace conditions impact employee performance and safety, recommending solutions to enhance comfort and reduce physical strain or hazards.

The Ergonomics Specialist will conduct workplace risk evaluations, analyze work environments, and assess employee interactions with existing or new equipment, using findings to pinpoint areas for enhancement. Additionally, this position will work closely with the client's Corporate Workplace Solutions, Procurement, and Engineering teams to develop workplace standards for desks, office equipment, and suppliers, and integrate solutions into the engineering platforms as necessary.

Interactions with the firm's Medical Leave of Absence team may also be required for cases needing accommodations due to short-term medical conditions, chronic illnesses, or long-term disabilities.

Responsibilities may also encompass developing and delivering ergonomic training sessions, engaging in ergonomics-focused projects, performing analysis and reporting, participating in wellness committees, and communicating effectively at all organizational levels, both verbally and in writing.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts workstation and task evaluations to identify and rectify ergonomic issues. Utilizes recognized ergonomic metrics to document issues and assess control effectiveness.
  • Participates in departmental and organization-wide initiatives aimed at promoting safety and eliminating unsafe practices, with a focus on ergonomic concerns.
  • Contributes to a robust Ergonomics Program at Optum Workplace Well-being sites by adhering to sound program elements, policies, and procedures related to ergonomic issues and work-related musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Proposes effective ergonomic control strategies while being mindful of budgetary constraints.
  • Maintains case documentation in line with established standard operating procedures or regulations.
  • Provides support to other wellness or client committees as needed.
  • Assists in presenting ergonomic and safety information during new employee orientations.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Ergonomics, Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physical or Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience in ergonomic assessments.
  • Professional certification is preferred; ability to obtain certification within one month of hire is required.
  • Proficient in using various ergonomic assessment tools.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Limited travel may be necessary.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
