POSITION SUMMARY:

The Safety and Security Specialist is responsible for safeguarding the organization's physical and intellectual assets. Access control is a critical duty. To fulfill this role, various shift assignments, including extended hours, weekends, and holidays, may be required. Responsibilities include conducting patrols, monitoring surveillance systems, and communicating via radio channels. All personnel must successfully complete a drug screening and maintain a polished, professional appearance in accordance with departmental standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee surveillance equipment operations.
  • Respond to and manage communications on radio channels.
  • Identify and document security, fire, and safety infractions.
  • Provide emergency assistance, including CPR, first aid, and care for workplace injuries.
  • Conduct patrols, which necessitate prolonged walking.
  • Remain stationed in restricted areas for extended durations.
  • Stay informed about procedures relevant to the assigned security post.
  • Manage the activation and deactivation of security systems.
  • Unlock and secure areas as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • Must be eligible to operate company vehicles with a clean driving record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with diverse groups.
  • Uphold confidentiality at all times.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in emergency situations.
  • Punctual and reliable; possess adequate report writing skills; able to read, interpret, and apply security and emergency protocols independently.
  • Expected to learn the Security Officer Training Matrix, covering topics such as security philosophy, facility knowledge, legal authority of security personnel, report writing, search and seizure laws, evidence regulations, alarm systems, emergency evacuation procedures, ethics, professionalism, communication techniques, first aid, CPR certification, and ongoing education provided by the Professional Security Training Network (PSTN). Additional training in workplace violence, sexual harassment, effective listening, and teamwork is recommended.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs.

INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT:

  • Executes tasks and responsibilities under general supervision, utilizing established procedures and innovative approaches. Selects from limited options to resolve issues. Occasionally exercises independent judgment to complete assignments and frequently makes recommendations regarding work procedures, policies, and practices.
