Position Overview
The Youth Care Specialist Supervisor plays a pivotal role in leading and overseeing the Youth Care Specialists. This includes managing their performance, creating work schedules, and participating in the recruitment process. The Supervisor is accountable for the safe and secure functioning of the program, ensuring compliance with all relevant contract stipulations and local, state, and federal regulations. Through effective leadership, the Supervisor will inspire and direct both team members and youth towards achieving the program's established goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee team members and youth in alignment with operational policies to ensure a safe environment; report any incidents to appropriate leadership; adhere to all contractual obligations.
- Assist in creating work schedules to maintain required staffing ratios.
- Provide constructive and timely performance feedback to team members; conduct performance evaluations and recommend development opportunities.
- Guide youth in the proper care and maintenance of the facility and its equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Supervise a range of academic, vocational, and motivational activities both on-site and off-site.
- Act as a mentor and positive role model for both youth and team members.
- Communicate essential information to relevant team members and supervisors.
- Implement Behavior Skills Training effectively, providing guidance and redirection to youth.
- Administer medication as required and provide first aid and CPR during emergencies, following national standards.
- Help establish and maintain positive youth conduct and discipline; participate in interdisciplinary meetings focused on care reviews.
- Engage in special activities, including day and overnight trips, which may require extended hours.
- Complete necessary training in crisis intervention and physical restraint as mandated by state and contract requirements.
- Manage youth altercations using authorized intervention techniques; escalate serious disciplinary issues as needed.
- Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications through recognized organizations.
- Attend all required training and professional development sessions to keep certifications current.
- Operate organizational vehicles in accordance with established policies.
- Assist with additional projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of six months of supervisory experience is necessary.
- At least one year of experience working with youth, preferably in the Juvenile Justice System.
