SUMMARY

BATES TECHNICAL COLLEGE is seeking qualified faculty members for temporary teaching roles within the General Education Department. As an adjunct educator, you will be responsible for designing and delivering high-quality instruction to students in various formats. This role may be filled at any time and is typically offered on a quarterly basis.

Instruction may occur at multiple campus locations or online.

We are currently looking for faculty to teach in the following areas:
Mathematics, including 90-level developmental math such as Pre-Algebra, Elementary and Intermediate Algebra, as well as 100-level applied technical math and business math courses. Additionally, we seek instructors for 100-level transferable college math courses including Math in Society, Precalculus I & II, Statistics, and Calculus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver assigned courses with high-quality instruction across various delivery methods, including in-person, web-enhanced, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Prepare comprehensive course materials and lesson plans.
  • Engage professionally with a diverse group of colleagues and students.
  • Provide clear expectations, evaluations, and timelines to students through well-structured course outlines and approved syllabi.
  • Support student achievement initiatives to promote retention, completion, and progression.
  • Design relevant assignments that align with learning outcomes in practical contexts.
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries.
  • Offer individualized and small group instruction in both classroom and lab settings.
  • Ensure that instructional practices are based on recognized educational standards and relevant to students' vocational training.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and curriculum documentation.
  • Utilize technology effectively to enhance student access to information and instructional content.
  • Assist in maintaining industry-based program accreditation and prepare students for relevant certifications.
  • Manage classroom dynamics to foster a conducive learning environment.
  • Oversee budget management related to program resources and supplies.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Contribute to college-wide initiatives supporting regional accreditation and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Engage collaboratively with College Student Services and advisory committees to facilitate student employment opportunities.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in college committees as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position does not include supervisory duties.
Conditions of Employment

  • Faculty must obtain a Professional-Technical Education Certificate within 30 working days if working two-thirds of a full-time load for more than three quarters.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field for teaching developmental math courses.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field for teaching college-level math courses.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching or instructional experience, including student teaching as part of an educational program.
  • Experience in a two-year higher education institution.
