Position Overview
St. Leo Parish is in search of a dedicated Accountant to manage all financial responsibilities for the parish. This role encompasses the preparation of financial records, monthly closing processes, and the generation of financial statements, alongside budgeting and account analysis. The Accountant will report directly to the Business Manager and will work part-time, dedicating 4-6 hours weekly.
Key Responsibilities
The Accountant will be tasked with the following:
- Overseeing accounts payable processes, including the management of bills and the reconciliation of credit card statements, ensuring accuracy and proper classification within the general ledger.
- Handling accounts receivable and Electronic Funds Transactions, ensuring accurate posting and preparation of deposit slips.
- Administering weekly payroll and accurately recording related transactions in the general ledger.
- Summarizing the current financial status by collecting relevant information and preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other analytical reports.
- Assisting in the development, maintenance, and analysis of budgets, while preparing periodic reports that compare actual results to budgeted figures.
- Engaging with parishioners, suppliers, vendors, and banking contacts to facilitate smooth financial operations.
- Performing administrative tasks, maintaining information files, and executing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:
- A BA or BS degree in finance, accounting, or business management.
- A minimum of two years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping, including expertise in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Expertise in QuickBooks.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and professionally.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem-solving capabilities with minimal supervision.
- A commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
