About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Protection Engineer to join our team at Amtrak. As a key member of our Engineering department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our passengers, employees, and the public by designing and implementing effective fire protection systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement fire protection designs for tunnels, overbuilds, and structures across the Amtrak network.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including Stations, Planning, Mechanical, and Transportation, to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.
  • Provide technical expertise on fire protection systems, including fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, standpipe systems, and special suppression systems.
  • Conduct code consulting and egress analysis to ensure compliance with NFPA standards and building codes.
  • Develop and review construction cost estimates for fire protection projects.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide direct review comments to ensure high-quality designs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent degree or years of experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to obtain within 3 years of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, design specifications, and recommended practices for fire protection equipment, controls, power sources, and SCADA.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization and collaborating with external stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Master's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field.
  • Prior experience working with building/tunnel electrical systems and controls.
  • Familiarity with large-scale architecturally and historically sensitive facilities.
