Position Overview
The Head of Financial Strategy is accountable for steering the Financial Planning and Analysis division within New York Community Bank. This role encompasses leading a dedicated team of finance and business intelligence experts who collaborate with organizational leaders to ensure alignment between business objectives and overall profitability. This position is pivotal in delivering strategic financial insights, projecting future performance, and facilitating informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage the financial planning and analysis operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling across all sectors of the Bank.
- Provide in-depth financial analysis and insights to aid strategic decision-making by executive management.
- Track financial performance against established budgets and forecasts, identifying variances and trends.
- Work alongside business units to create key performance indicators and metrics for performance evaluation.
- Assist in developing business cases for new initiatives and investments.
- Oversee the formulation of the annual operating budget and long-term financial strategies for the Bank.
- Prepare and deliver financial reports to senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Coordinate with Strategic Planning, Capital Planning & Stress Testing, and other finance functions to support budgeting, forecasting, and stress testing activities.
- Manage talent functions including recruitment, performance reviews, staff development/training, disciplinary actions, succession planning, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Engage in special projects and undertake additional duties as necessary.
- Adhere consistently to regulatory and compliance policies and standards relevant to the role, completing required compliance training. Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree (4 years or equivalent) in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- Experience: A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis and capital management within the Financial Services sector.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s Degree (or equivalent postgraduate qualification) in Finance or Accounting.
- Certification: CPA is preferred.
Job Competencies:
- Extensive knowledge of financial planning, capital management, and corporate taxation.
- Strategic thinker with exceptional financial insight.
- Strong skills in financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities, capable of translating complex financial data into clear and actionable insights.
- Adept at working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial planning software.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and team management skills.
- Physical demands (ADA): No unusual physical exertion is required.
