Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a

Lead Parts Engineer

. This role is situated in either

Roy, UT or Huntsville, AL

and supports the Sentinel initiative.

Key Responsibilities:


The selected candidate will oversee a comprehensive range of corrosion management activities for designated systems and subsystems, ensuring effective risk identification, mitigation, and tracking of corrosion challenges throughout the design phase of weapon systems and equipment within a Systems Engineering framework.


The candidate will exhibit proficiency in developing, maintaining, and reviewing Corrosion Mitigation strategies, Corrosion Evaluation/Verification techniques, and Corrosion Prevention and Control Plans (CPCPs), as well as Program Parts Selection Lists (PPSLs) and Program Approved Material and Process Lists (PAMPLs) for all design teams and their principal suppliers, while managing issue tracking and risk mitigation for all corrosion-related concerns.


The candidate will demonstrate a thorough understanding and broad application of technical principles, theories, and concepts related to service life estimation and corrosion.

General knowledge of Systems Engineering, multi-generational program system and/or subsystem development, and familiarity with supplier management is expected.


The candidate will create, analyze, and produce roadmaps, impact assessments, and issue reports, presenting data to stakeholders, customers, and upper management. They will research specifications and standards to support metals and corrosion engineering processes, utilizing principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to formulate metallic material and processing specifications, as well as fabrication and assembly processes. The candidate will review and assess engineering solutions, designs, and technical data for corrosion implications, adhering to Systems Engineering disciplines and processes. They will assist in the Hexavalent Chromium prevention initiative.

The applicant will be expected to maintain close coordination with several integrated product teams, provide detailed status updates to program leadership, and participate in Corrosion Prevention and Advisory Board meetings as necessary.

The candidate will be self-driven, work under general guidance, and collaborate effectively within teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is essential.

Additional Responsibilities:
Draft and review design documents, drawings, specifications, and test plans.

Recommend material selections and process choices for welding, metallurgy, and corrosion.

Collaborate closely with various functional organizations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Field Operations, etc.).

Develop novel strategies for assessing hardware performance risks, corrosion prevention, service life prediction, or testing.

Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers on corrosion and service life forecasting.


Utilize software modeling and simulation tools for corrosion assessments and evaluations to predict service life and identify corrosion issues in 3D and 2D assemblies.

Employ a data-driven decision-making approach for technical problem-solving.

Document and track corrosion risks and issues related to design drawings, 3D models, and material selections.


Collaborate with systems engineers, design engineers, project managers, reliability engineers, and external customers to establish corrosion best practices for galvanic assessments, service life predictions, failure analysis, 3D modeling and simulation, specifications, and processes.

Communicate with senior leadership regarding cost/time savings opportunities related to corrosion and service life of hardware designs.

This position's standard work schedule is 9/80, allowing employees to work nine-hour days Monday through Thursday and take every other Friday off.


Qualifications:
This position may be filled as a Principal Engineer (Level 3) or a Senior Principal Engineer (Level 4).

Required for

Principal Parts Engineer:
Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, 3 years of experience with a Master's degree, or 0 years of experience with a PhD.

Required for Sr

Principal Parts Engineer:
Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 9 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, 7 years of experience with a Master's degree, or 4 years with a PhD.

Required for Both Levels:
Active, in-scope DOD Secret security clearance or higher granted or approved within the last 6 years.

Must be eligible to obtain Enhanced Security Clearances within a reasonable timeframe as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.

Current Special Program Access.

Experience with Air Force, Navy, or Army Programs.

Experience with Development Programs.

Experience coordinating and performing Failure Analysis for mechanical and electrical assemblies and materials (corrosion, fracture, deformation, GD&T, etc.).

Experience conducting inspections of welds.

Understanding of process/procedure development, control, and improvement.

Experience in developing Strength and Fracture Allowables.

Experience managing Program Parts Selection List (PPSL), Program Approved Parts List (PAPL), Program Approved Material and Process List (PAMPL).

Familiarity with Systems Engineering frameworks and concepts.

Experience with Siemens Teamcenter, NX solid modeling.

Excellent communication skills (both upward and downward).

Salary Range:
$84,200 - $139,600

Salary Range 2:
$104,400 - $173,200


The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
